This notice explains how THUBSMED Prosthetic Care processes personal information, in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA).
Responsible party
THUBSMED is the responsible party. Contact our Information Officer at [information officer email to be confirmed].
What we collect
Identity and contact details, location, funding details, and special personal information about your health: amputation details, prosthetic needs, medical history, and clinical notes.
Why we collect it
To identify people in need of prosthetic care across South Africa, to allow THUBSMED healthcare providers to assess, refer, motivate for funding and treat you, and — only if you agree separately — for anonymised research and service planning.
Legal basis
Health information is special personal information (section 26). We process it with your explicit consent (section 27(1)(a)) and for the purposes of medical treatment by healthcare professionals bound by confidentiality (section 32).
Who can see it
Only authorised THUBSMED clinicians, field officers and administrators. Access is controlled by role and recorded. Referral and motivation letters are shared with the facility or funder you are referred to.
AI assistance
Clinicians may use an AI tool to draft notes and letters. Only clinical facts are used — not your ID number, phone, email or address. Every draft is reviewed and approved by a clinician before it is finalised.
Security and retention
Data is encrypted in transit and at rest, and kept only as long as needed for your care and as required by health record laws.
Your rights
You may access, correct or ask us to delete your information, object to processing, withdraw consent at any time, and lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator (inforeg.org.za).
